Description

It all started on the island of Ekskäret in the Stokholm archipelago, a place where nature and the sea embrace the mind and open up for deep conversations. It was after the first IDG Summit in 2021 that a group of like-minded people gathered there, all with a common drive: to promote inner development and sustainability through the Inner Development Goals (IDG).
On one of the rocks, one of the participants had invited the group to try out having conversations about the IDGs using rocks. As the group stood around the stones and reflected on their relationship to the different dimensions and skills, moving them according to how familiar or unfamiliar it was, a strong bond and shared understanding was created.
This simple but powerful tool became a symbol of something bigger. The conversations on the island of Ekskäret filled the participants with a sense of meaningfulness that they took home with them. Soon they started organising workshops, where stones were exchanged for origami.
Origami became a way to continue the visual and tactile discussions about the IDG dimensions, now with more people involved. In the years that followed, more people have joined and found meaning in connecting to something bigger, Ekskäret’s IDG hub has become a hub of community and engagement, where conversations about personal and organisational development are constantly taking place.
But it’s not always easy. Like all communities, this one faced friction and challenges. At one point, when relationships within the group became strained, they turned to the IDG capabilities as a solution. Instead of pointing fingers at what others needed to do better, the IDGs helped them turn inwards and ask the question: What can I contribute? It changed everything. The focus shifted from blame and frustration to personal responsibility and collective development.
Today, Ekskäret Klustret IDG-hub continues to be a watering hole for people interested in inner development, a place where you can rest in your being and get a chance to test/offer methods and tools for inner development to create outer changes. What once started on a rock, with rocks and open-air conversations, has grown and is now part of a global movement with deep roots in people’s longing for a better, more sustainable world.

Learnings

We have to find out how to include people who do not see the link between internal development and tackling the challenges we face.
We have noticed that those of us with a keen interest in inner development are in a bubble, and the way we speak create unnecessary barriers.
